Last week, the House of Representatives made important decisions regarding the protection of consumer choice for gas stoves. On Tuesday, Congressman Armstrong’s (R-ND) Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act (H.R. 1615) received bipartisan support and passed with a vote of 248-180. Notably, 29 Democrats voted in favor of the bill. If signed into law, this act would prevent the Consumer Product Safety Commission from categorizing gas stoves as hazardous products to be banned.

The following day, Congresswoman Lesko (R-AZ) spearheaded another significant bill called the Save Our Gas Stoves Act (H.R. 1640). This legislation aims to limit the Department of Energy’s (DOE) authority to finalize their proposed rulemaking, issued in February 2023, regarding gas stoves. Additionally, it seeks to restrict the DOE from introducing similar regulations in the future. The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) worked closely with Congresswoman Lesko and proudly endorsed H.R. 1640. During her introduction of the bill on the House floor, Congresswoman Lesko acknowledged the support of NPGA. The Save Our Gas Stoves Act received bipartisan approval, with a vote of 249-181, including 29 Democrats in favor.
