Dear Customer,

Testifying before the House of Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on energy and power March 6, National Propane Gas Association president and CEO Rick Rolden made several recommendations on what government can do to protect consumers who rely on propane, including addressing energy infrastructure needs in the U.S.  Rolden summarized the challenges posed to the propane industry’s infrastructure saying, “the propane delivery infrastructure is undergoing a dramatic transition, brought on by the production of previously unimaginable amount of domestic fuels, including propane.  The result has been a change in the historical flow of fuels, which has been disruptive to energy infrastructure and energy markets”.

In addition to calling attention to the changing flow of fuels in North America, he underscored that the challenges of delivering propane to customers this winter were exacerbated by a number of factors including a late, wet grain and corn harvest, historic low temperatures, lack of propane storage capacity, (which McMinnville Gas Inc has 250,000 gallons of storage capacity), diverted transportation assets and increased exports.

McMinnville Gas has added a satellite facility in the St Paul area to supply gas to our Marion/Clackamas customers.  Also, our company in process of building a satellite facility in the Washington County town of North Plains.  This will support our customers in the North Willamette Valley area and be operational for the fall of 2014 and beyond.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, newly elected Chairman of the Midwestern Governor’s Association said in early March the primary focus of his leadership role for the organization will be to strengthen the propane supply chain.  “These past few months we learned that our propane supply can be as unpredictable as Mother Nature, Walker said”.  As chair of the MGA I intent to create a working group comprised of government leaders, industry leaders, and those working in and with the propane industry to improve propane operations, enhance consumer awareness, and strengthen industry preparedness”.  One of the solutions recommended are increasing the number of propane tanks filled in summer instead of fall.  Our company keeps everyone (95%) on a keep full basis and has a summer fill schedule for our hot water use accounts.

Our drivers are in the process of planning for one more fill in April before summer.  Any requests for service on equipment, stop filling tanks because of selling a house or going on vacation and do not want any future deliveries must phone these requests into the office.  The drivers stop at 20 to 30 locations daily and have a hard time passing on customers requests.  This must be done by phoning into the office and talk to Susan or Davida who will follow up on your needs.  Any equipment upgrades or purchases of new gas equipment such as water heaters or shop heaters should call the office immediately.  Spring and summer months are a good time for our service personnel to complete installation requests.  Also, to let our customers know McMinnville Gas has dropped their prices .30 cents this past three weeks and prices are proceeding to the normal range.  The budget payment plan year is ending in April and balances must be cleared up by the end of May before you can participate in 2014-15 budget year.  Notices will be sent out in April statement for current and new budget participates.  Thank you for your business this past “hectic” winter.

Cordially,

John J Buller and Sons
